About Us
Our
Story
At Spalted Figure, we create handcrafted furniture and home goods from carefully selected hardwoods. Based in Los Angeles, our small studio is dedicated to quality craftsmanship, timeless design, and pieces made to be used, loved, and enjoyed for years to come.
Founded by Cody and Elyse in March 2025, Spalted Figure grew from our blended passions for woodworking, interior design, cooking, and gathering with the people we love. As partners in both life and business, what began as Cody's passion for woodworking eventually became a shared creative outlet and the foundation for something much greater. Today, Spalted Figure is a reflection of the life we're building together and our belief that the objects we live with every day should be both beautiful and built to last.
Entirely self-taught, Cody's passion for woodworking was shaped by years of experimentation and a profound appreciation for the natural beauty, character, and craftsmanship found in fine hardwoods. As the craftsman, primary maker, and project manager behind Spalted Figure, Cody personally guides each project from concept to completion, bringing a thoughtful approach and unwavering attention to detail to every piece he creates.
Though his work spans everything from cutting boards to custom commissions, his greatest passion lies in furniture design. Inspired by timeless materials and thoughtful joinery, he strives to create pieces that are functional, unique, and timeless, with the hope that they will be enjoyed and passed down for generations.
Introduced to woodworking through Cody, Elyse developed her own appreciation and techniques for the craft and quickly became an integral part of the creative process. As the primary product designer, brand manager, and creative director of Spalted Figure, she helps shape everything from the customer experience to product design, content creation, and the overall vision behind the brand.
Together, we carefully select every board and oversee every detail from start to finish. From sourcing hardwoods to packing each order in our Los Angeles studio, every step is carried out with care and intention.
Every project begins with a conversation. Whether it's a ready-to-ship piece or a custom commission, we believe the best work comes from understanding how a piece will live in someone's home and become part of everyday moments.
No two pieces are exactly alike, and that's exactly the point. The natural beauty and individuality of wood ensure that each piece holds its own identity.
Some of life's best memories are made around the table, and we're honored to create pieces that become part of those traditions. Our mission is simple: to create meaningful, heirloom-quality pieces that bring warmth, beauty, and lasting craftsmanship into the home.
Thank you for supporting our small business and allowing a piece of us to be a part of your home.
With care,
Cody & Elyse
